Stamped concrete gives you the look of hand-laid stone, cobblestone, slate, or brick pavers — with the durability and lower maintenance of a continuous concrete slab. Done right, most people cannot tell the difference from 10 feet away.
Our decorative concrete process
Decorative work requires a tighter hand than a broom-finish driveway. We slow down, sample on-site, and walk you through the pattern and color choices before we ever pour.
Color selection. We use integral color (mixed into the concrete) for the base, with a broadcast or antique release agent for the highlights and low spots. This creates depth that a single-color pour can’t match.
Pattern stamping. Once the slab reaches the right firmness, we lay the stamp mats and press them in by hand or with a tamping tool. Timing is everything — too wet and the pattern blurs, too dry and the mat won’t release.
Sealing. A penetrating or film-forming sealer locks in color, protects against UV fading, and repels oil and food stains. We re-seal every 2–3 years as part of our maintenance program.
Popular patterns in the Lakeway area
- Ashlar slate — the most requested pattern in Travis County, works on patios, walkways, and pool decks
- Cobblestone — a Hill Country classic, looks like the original streets of nearby towns
- Herringbone brick — sharp, modern, great for driveways and entries
- Flagstone — irregular shapes that look like hand-cut limestone
- Wood plank — increasingly popular around pools and outdoor kitchens
- Seamless slate — a stamped skin with no grout lines, very contemporary
What does stamped concrete cost in Lakeway TX?
Installed pricing runs $14–$22 per square foot, depending on:
- Pattern complexity (multi-pattern or custom borders add labor)
- Color count (single integral color vs. multiple broadcast accents)
- Site conditions (curved forms, slopes, accessibility)
- Sealer system (standard acrylic vs. higher-end urethane or penetrating)
For a 400 sq ft patio with a single-color ashlar slate stamp and standard sealer, you can expect to land between $5,600 and $8,800. Multi-color, multi-pattern, or custom scored designs run higher.
Stamped concrete vs. real pavers
We’re often asked which holds up better. Honest answer: real pavers have a slightly longer service life (40+ years vs. 25–30 for stamped) and individual pavers can be replaced if damaged. Stamped concrete wins on:
- Lower cost per square foot (typically 30–50% less installed)
- No weeds or ants between joints
- Faster install — a 500 sq ft patio in 3 days vs. a week
- Easier snow and leaf cleanup
For Lakeway homes with a real stone or brick exterior, pavers sometimes look more authentic. We will tell you which one we would pick for our own home if you ask.
Care and maintenance
Stamped concrete in the Texas sun needs a fresh coat of sealer every 2–3 years. Skipping this leads to fading, surface wear, and eventually delamination. We offer a maintenance program that includes pressure washing, re-sealing, and minor color touch-ups at a flat annual rate.
